2009 Mooney Scholarship Winners

Four Round Rock ISD students, one from each high school, were selected as 2009 winners of George Mooney Memorial Scholarships, funded by the RRISD Partners in Education Foundation.

This year’s winners were: Ashtynn Dailey from McNeil High School, Garet Beyer from Round Rock High School, Calvin Bryan from Stony Point High School and Ariel DuVal from Westwood High School.

In years past, the scholarship amounts were $1,000 per student. This year, the Foundation increased the scholarships by 50 percent to $1,500 per student. The scholarships were created by RRISD Partners in Education Foundation and are funded by the Foundation to recognize a graduating senior from each high school who exemplifies outstanding community service and volunteerism.

The scholarship is named in memory of George Mooney, a Round Rock man noted for his community service and involvement with the RRISD Partners in Education program.

Together, the 2009 recipients logged more than 700 hours of community service over 4 years of high school, often while working. The students were honored with a reception on April 16 and were recognized at the RRISD Board meeting following the reception.
